Unilever helps support underprivileged children
03-05-2007 : Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) and Shathi Shamaj Kalyan Samity (SSKS) sign an agreement to help support underprivileged children
Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) and Shathi Shamaj Kalyan Samity (SSKS) signed an agreement on 3rd May 2007 to continue Unilever’s support to the operation of a school for underprivileged children. Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Chairman and Managing Director of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd and Mrs. Sultana Chaudhury, Chairperson of SSKS signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
The school is for underprivileged children living in slum areas of Banani and UBL has supported the school and its activities since 2005 and apart from giving financial support, Unilever managers have also personally helped by teaching students of the school.
It may be mentioned that Unilever Bangladesh’s voluntary activities have been in the areas of health, education and women’s empowerment across the country and UBL has undertaken a number of initiatives in the area of education and nurturing talent. As part of the drive to enhance the access to quality education in the country, the Company has also supported tertiary education schemes and IT education scholarships to meritorious yet needy girl students. As part of nurturing talent, the Company has supported nationwide talent search contests like Closeup 1, which have provided the platform for recognizing deserving talent across the country.
