Simple steps to beautiful skin

Why spend a fortune on expensive treatments? A few changes to your daily routine can make all the difference to your skin. What makes you feel good, makes you look good too.

Woman applies moisturiserBreathe fresh air

When was the last time you took a really deep breath of clean, fresh air? Try it now. Close your eyes. Breathe in for a count of three, then breathe out slowly for a count of five. You see, you feel calmer and more refreshed already. And it shows in your face!

Take regular exercise

Whether it's working out in the gym or simply walking briskly to the shops, exercise will increase your circulation, pumping extra oxygen and nutrients to your skin. It also helps your body to manufacture collagen, reducing the risk of wrinkles. What's more, there's evidence it can combat acne.

Eat & drink well

Skin cells are mostly water so your skin will stay plumper and firmer if you drink at least eight glasses a day – more if you're travelling on a plane. To combat dry skin, try upping your intake of zinc and selenium by eating more meat, fish, seeds and grain. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables will help boost your skin's ability to rejuvenate and fight off the ravages of ultra-violet light.

Respect the sun

Around 80% of the tell-tale signs of ageing, including wrinkles, are due to the effects of the sun's ultraviolet light, so don't forget your sunscreen! The risk is higher when you're on snow or ice and remember that UV rays can even penetrate clothes and car windows.

Be kind to your skin

Follow these steps and you'll need only the simplest of routines at the end of each day to keep you looking good. To avoid clogging the pores, always remove your make-up before you go to bed using good quality cleansing products suitable for your skin-type. Never wash your face with hot water as this can aggravate skin and inflame capillaries.

And the final ingredient for a more beautiful you? Plenty of sleep. Sweet dreams!
