Young woman floating in the seaTowels & robes

Have a generous supply of plush towels ready and waiting. Many brands offer soft, absorbent terry towels made of Egyptian cotton (the bath sheet size is especially luxurious). Or wrap yourself in a generous robe to dry.

Sponges & brushes

Scrubbing your body in warm water is an invigorating way to stimulate circulation, remove dead skin cells and leave your skin healthy, soft and vibrant. Your body will love the attention. Try using any or all of the following while relaxing in your bath: loofah, body sponge, body glove, body brush, pumice stone (for your feet).

Soaps & body washes

Go beyond cleansing. Nourish your skin. Clean your skin with a gentle cleanser appropriate for your skin type. Harsh soaps can break down the skin's protective layers, allowing natural moisture to escape and leaving skin rough and flaky. Try the new Dove range.

Eye masks

The skin around your eyes tends to reveal your exhaustion. Eye-masks are a gentle way to both soothe and rejuvenate aching eyes in need of attention. Cucumber tones the skin and restores tired eyes. Place a cold slice over each eye and rest for 15 minutes. Potato masks are an excellent astringent for the eyes. To make, finely grate a raw potato and place the gratings between two layers of muslin. Draw up the corners and tie, making one pouch for each eye. Wet the pouches, then settle into the tub and close your eyes, placing one pouch on each eye.

Lotions

Today, choosing a body lotion is about a lot more than just soothing dry skin. Besides acting like a moisturizer, your body lotion can actually work to improve the texture, appearance and health of your skin. Look for a lotion that suits your skin-type and can also restores moisture that is lost to environmental elements such as sun, wind and pollution.

Sound & sight

Music can play an important part in your spa-at-home time. Find music that is relaxing or inspiring - something that fills your soul. If music doesn't appeal, perhaps the sound of a bubbling fountain would. Sometimes silence is what you need. Try the soft glow of flickering candles to calm and relax.
