The Chevening Scholarships are prestigious scholarships awarded by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth offices to provide opportunity for post-graduate study in the UK for young professionals in their early or mid-career positions.The scheme operates in over 150 countries and annually provides funding for over 2,300 students.
In 2006,Unilever Bangladesh agreed to jointly fund a Chevening Scholarship titled the ‘Unilever Chevening Scholarship’ for a Bangladeshi national wishing to study in a university in the United Kingdom. The fields of study included for the Unilever Chevening Scholarship are Health, Education and Women’s Empowerment.Unilever places great importance on education. The Company believes that through improved education, people can become change agents in the society.
The recipients of this scholarship are ones who demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in their own country.Hence with their initiative, UBL expects to work towards a better future for Bangladesh. Applications are made to the British Council, The British Council conducts the first sift of applicants which is then shared with Unilever. The Company is involved in short listing and in final selection of the candidate.
