Who is the Team?
The team consists of Sajeed Alam, Ayman Sadiq and Ishmam Chowdhury from IBA – University of Dhaka who were champions of Unilever Bizmaestros 2015. As the winners of Bizmaestros, they represented Bangladesh at the Unilever FLL held in London, UK this April.
What was the Competition?
Unilever Future Leaders’ League is a global business competition where teams from 30 countries compete for the title. A whopping 400,000 students from around the world set out on the journey to FLL, 90 top students from 30 countries won the opportunity to participate in the global competition, each trio a champion of their own local Unilever competition.
The challenge this year was to design the marketing campaign to develop the market for Sunsilk conditioners. Team Bangladesh prepared for the challenge with the help of the official mentors, Shadman Sadikin – Product Group Manager – Hair Care and Mahdia Chowdhury – Management Trainee, Brands.
“We received a lot of important feedback from the Unilever Bangladesh mentors during our preparation, from insight to suggestions,” said Sajeed Alam, “they helped us understand the product and the challenges which helped us design the plan.” The team underwent rigorous grooming sessions, even receiving feedback from Zaved Akhter – Brand Building Director, before setting off for London.
At the Competition
At the competition, Team Bangladesh presented the concept ‘Untangle your hair, untangle your life’ developing a plan which highlights to consumers the advantages of conditioners in delivering soft, tangle free hair every day. They also developed activations around the same theme.
With this idea, Team Bangladesh was the only South Asian team to break through to the finals where they competed against Indonesia, Canada, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Russia, Egypt, Portugal and Italy in the finals. The team was judged by Amanda Sourry – Global VP, Foods, Zeynep Kutlay-Ozcan – Global VP, Sunsilk and Leena Nair – Chief HR Officer, Unilever.
“It was Ishmam, Sajeed and Ayman's simple yet convincing solution that blew away the judges,” said Rong Shang Chong – Global Leadership Development Manager, “with their great salesmanship skills, they got the whole room sold on their idea.” Team Costa Rica became the 2nd Runner Up and Team Russia became 1st Runner up at the competition.
In addition to the Championship, Team Bangladesh also grabbed the ‘LOL Award’ for their introductory video. The winner of this award was chosen through voting of the 90 participants.
As the Champions of Unilever Future Leaders’ League 2016, the winning trio will now attend the youth leadership conference ‘One Young World 2016’, in Ottawa, Canada this September.
